In 1690, Job Charnok, an agent of the East India Company chose this place for a British trade settlement. Sutanuti, Gobindapur and Kalikata now known as Kolkata.Now It's the capital of West Bengal and it is one of the major metropolitan cities of India along with Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

Depending on which direction you're heading in, buses could depart from the end of the Maidan near Chowringhee Road, or the bus stand at Babu Ghat near Fort William.
